To install Internet Information Service (IIS) web server on Microsoft Windows, follow these instructions:
Note: This section shows typical procedures using Windows 7 as an example. Some of the dialog and labels may look different in other versions of Windows.
Windows 7: Open the Windows Control Panel (Usually Start Menu > Control Panel) and select Programs:
Windows 7: In the program menu, select Turn Windows features on and off:
Windows 10: Open the Start Menu and press the Settings gear icon to bring up the “Windows Settings” window.
Windows 10: In the search box, search for "Turn Windows features on or off" and select the application when it appears under the search box.
The following steps are for Windows 7 and 10
In the Windows Features window that appears, tick the box next to Internet Information Services.
Expand Internet Information Services > World Wide Web Services > Application Development Features and check the box next to the CGI item:
Click OK to begin the installation of IIS.
Once the installation is complete, verify that IIS is functional by entering http://localhost into a browser address bar. A “Microsoft Internet Information Services” web page should be displayed.
